HOUSTON, May 12
– Niko Resources Corp., Calgary, has spud the Qara Dagh-1 exploratory well on the unexplored block of the same name in Iraqi Kurdistan.

Drilling is to take 4-5 months to evaluate seven potential reservoirs of Cretaceous, Jurassic, and Triassic age, said participant Vast Exploration Inc., Calgary. Projected TD is 4,000 m. The block area is 846 sq km.

Block interests are Niko Resources and Vast Exploration 37% each and Groundstar Resources Ltd., Calgary, 6%.
