HOUSTON, July 22 – Parex Resources Inc., Calgary, set casing to test multiple zones at an indicated discovery on the Moruga block in southern Trinidad.
Firecrown-1, the first of three exploratory wells planned in 2010, went to a TD of 8,701 ft measured depth and penetrated the primary and secondary objectives in the Miocene Herrera formation (OGJ Online, June 15, 2010).
Wireline logs, mudgas data, and cutting samples indicate the well encountered potential hydrocarbon bearing sandstones with oil shows.
The drilling rig spudded Snowcap-1 on July 16. It is projected to 8,600 ft to test a 3D-defined Herrera structure. Then Parex will move the rig to the Central Range block to drill a shallow prospect, subject to regulatory approval.
Moruga’s earning terms require Parex to drill one exploratory well to 8,600 ft or top Cretaceous, whichever occurs first, and one exploratory well to 10,500 ft. The license expires Aug. 29, 2013.
