HOUSTON, July 6
– Processing and interpretation of 247 line-km of 2D seismic over the Southwest Kanun exploration lead in the eastern South Mardin licenses in southeastern Turkey show a large structure with oil potential, said Melrose Resources PLC, Edinburgh.

The structure has potential in formations of Cretaceous and Ordovician age with gross recoverable prospective resources of 85 million bbl of oil with 20% chance of success. An exploration well is being planned for 2011.

A discovery would open a new exploration play. Three other prospects have been identified with a combined 53 million bbl recoverable prospective resource. More exploration leads have been identified on old regional 2D seismic lines in the western area of the South Mardin licenses, Melrose Resources said.
