Salamander Energy PLC has spud the Tom Hum Xanh-1X exploratory well on Block 31 in the Vinh Chau graben off southernmost Vietnam.

HOUSTON, July 1 – Salamander Energy PLC has spud the Tom Hum Xanh-1X exploratory well on Block 31 in the Vinh Chau graben off southernmost Vietnam.

Salamander, which has a 35% operated interest in the block under a farmout from Origin Energy Ltd., will drill to 2,500 m in 18 m of water in the South China Sea to test for oil in Eocene-Oligocene clastics and pre-Tertiary basement in a horst block structure in the center of the basin.
