HOUSTON, July 19 – Empire Petroleum Corp., Tulsa, has spudded an exploratory well in the Gabbs Valley in northwestern Nye County, Nev., projected to 6,500 ft.
The primary formation of interest in the Paradise Unit 2-12 is the Triassic, which the company believes is the likely source of oil shows it observed in a large volcanic interval in the Empire Cobble Cuesta 1-12 about ¾-mile southwest.
Empire will boost its interest in the 2-12 well and the 40,073-acre Paradise Unit to 77.5% from 57% by taking a farmout and paying a further 41% of the well costs (OGJ Online, June 22, 2009).
