HOUSTON, July 21 – Wintershall AG, operator with 75% working interest, expects to spud the Blakeney exploratory well on UK Central North Sea Block 21/27b within a few days.
The well targets the Upper Tay sandstone at 3,260 ft about 10 miles southwest of the Sheryl discovery on Block 21/23a. The Blakeney structure is a clear flat spot on the seismic, which suggests the presence of an oil-water contact, said partner Sterling Resources Ltd., Calgary, with a 25% interest in the Blakeney well.
Another rig is to arrive shortly to sidetrack the Cladhan discovery well to an updip location in Upper Jurassic channel sands. Sterling is operator with 39.9% interest. Wintershall has 33.5%, EnCore Oil PLC 16.6%, and Dyas UK Ltd.10%.
