More pay found at Colombia Moqueta discovery

HOUSTON, Oct. 29 – Gran Tierra Energy Inc., Calgary, detected oil pay in more zones at its Moqueta discovery on the Chaza block in Colombia’s Putumayo basin and plans to start production in the first quarter of 2011 through an 8-km, 6-in. pipeline to Costayaco field facilities.
The Moqueta-3 delineation well recorded oil and gas shows through Villeta Lower U sandstone, Villeta T sandstone, and the Caballos zones. Electric logs indicated total net oil pay of 118 ft compared with the 44 ft encountered in the Moqueta-2 delineation well. Gran Tierra operates the block with 100% working interest.
The company is building location for Moqueta-4 at 1.5 km southwest of Moqueta-1.
At Moqueta-3, two Villeta T sandstone intervals totaling 48 ft were perforated and tested at 4,549-61 ft and 4,568-4,604 ft measured depth. Flow was 514 b/d of 28.4° gravity oil with 0.2% water cut.
Two Upper Caballos intervals totaling 26 ft were perforated and tested at 4,690-4,708 ft and 4,715-23 ft MD. After swabbing, flow was 120 b/d of 28.3° gravity oil and 0.2% water cut.
Two Middle Caballos intervals totaling 27 ft were perforated and tested at 4,734-50 ft and 4,761-72 ft MD. After swabbing, flow was 219 b/d of 28.6° gravity oil and 0.2% water cut.
No oil-water contact is evident in any of the three tested formations penetrated by the well bore.
The Lower Caballos formation was previously determined to have lower oil saturation than Moqueta-1 and Moqueta-2. After low-productivity fluid testing, Gran Tierra Energy has preliminary indications the lowermost part of the Lower Caballos is water bearing in the Moqueta-3 delineation well.
