HOUSTON, Oct. 22
-- Interlink Petroleum Ltd., Mumbai, declared a heavy oil discovery in an area previously thought of as being gas prone on the Baola block 40 km southwest of Ahmedabad in India's Gujarat state.

The Baola-8 well went to a TD of 1,009 m and encountered the target Middle Eocene oolite reservoir section of the Kalol formation at 904.5-928 m.

Several hydrocarbon-bearing sections were identified through mud log and electric log evaluation and geochemical evaluation of sidewall cores. Initial estimates indicate 9 m of net pay in 23.5 m of gross pay.

An early test at 909-911 m yielded 12° gravity oil to surface under natural flow at an unspecified rate. Further reservoir evaluation and a more extensive production test program is planned to reassess the zone and revisit other potential hydrocarbon-bearing zones of interest.
