HOUSTON, Oct. 19
-- Max Petroleum PLC, London, has logged 16 m of net oil pay in the UTS-1 exploratory well on the Uytas prospect on Block A in western Kazakhstan.

Electric logs indicated Cretaceous pay at depths of 60-76 m, “with a potential 86-m thick oil column present at depths from 60 to 146 m,” Max said.

The company ran casing over the logged part of the well and was continuing drilling to a target depth of about 900 m to assess its main targets in Jurassic and Triassic sandstones.

It plans to test the shallow Cretaceous zone after evaluating the deeper strata.
