HOUSTON, Oct. 22
-- Eni Exploration & Production has signed production sharing contracts with the government of Togo for two blocks in the Gulf of Guinea.

The country has no oil or gas production but borders Ghana to the east. Ghana’s deep offshore has yielded major discoveries in recent years (OGJ Online, Oct. 15, 2010).

Eni will operate Togo Blocks 1 and 2 with 100% participation interests in each.

The blocks are in the Dahomey basin, which Eni describes as “scarcely explored” and analogous to the Tano basin, which has yielded the discoveries to the west.

The company said it will begin immediately to evaluate the blocks.
