HOUSTON, Sept. 29 -- Partners in Block 15/06 off Angola reported an oil discovery in an appraisal well designated Cabaca Southeast-2.
Drilled in 470 m of water about 100 km from the coast, the well flowed during production tests at equipment-limited rates as high as 7,000 b/d of 34º gravity oil, said Statoil, which has a 5% interest in the block.
The well appraised the Cabaca Southeast-1 discovery on the east side of the block, which penetrated 450 m of gross oil pay (OGJ, July 19, 2010, Newsletter).
Statoil said operator Eni SPA, with a 35% interest in Block 15/06, will work with concessionaire Sonangol to “accelerate development of this second hub.”
Eni has made four discoveries on the western side of the block.
Other partners are SSI Fifteen Ltd. 20%; Sonangol Pesquisa e Producao SA and Total, 15% each; and Falcon Oil Holding Angola SA and Petrobras International (Braspetro) BV, 5% each.
