HOUSTON, Nov. 1 -- The government of Newfoundland and Labrador has issued a call for postings to identify prospective land parcels onshore western Newfoundland for possible future oil and gas exploration.
More than $50 million has been invested in exploration activity in Newfoundland west coast basins the past 3 years, and interest is expected to grow, said Kathy Dunderdale, Minister of Natural Resources.
Some 7 million acres is open for nomination by a Dec. 15, 2010, deadline. Areas include the Bay St. George, Anticosti, and Deer Lake basins, where exploration is under way. Unexplored basins such as the Howley basin and the onshore part of the St. Anthony basin will also be included.
