– TransGlobe Energy Corp., Calgary, took a farmout on the 858 sq km East Ghazalat concession in Egypt’s Western Desert from Vegas Oil & Gas SA, private Athens operator.

TransGlobe plans to drill three exploratory wells to earn a 50% interest in the concession 250 km west of Cairo in the Abu Gharadiq basin. Vegas has shot 450 line-km of 3D seismic, and 1,548 line-km of 2D and 218 sq km of 3D seismic were already available.

Gawad-1, a 9,480-ft Jurassic prospect, was spudded on Jan. 14, and the other two wells are to follow back to back.
