HOUSTON, Aug. 16
– Calvalley Petroleum Inc., Calgary, tested light oil from Cretaceous Qishn sands at the No. 2 well in Ras Nowmah field on Block 9 in Yemen’s Masila basin.

Ras Nowmah-2 tested at 1,227 b/d of 30° gravity sweet crude and no formation water with only 4% pressure drawdown at maximum capacity of the largest pump available at completion.

Calvalley perforated the upper 15 m of the 41 m of gross oil pay penetrated. Qishn came in 4 m higher than prognosis. Testing will resume in several days with a larger pump.

Calvalley expects higher recovery factors than with the heavy oil encountered in previous Qishn structures on the block and has identified several other structures.
