HOUSTON, Aug. 13
– Arkanova Energy Corp., through subsidiary Provident Energy Associates of Montana LLC, has spud the first well in an infill program in the Two Medicine Cut Bank Sand Unit in northwestern Montana.

It will drill the Tribal-Max 1-2817, in SE SW 28-32n-6w, Glacier County, vertically to 6,000 ft to test the Bakken-equivalent Exshaw shale, Sanish/Three Forks, Lodgepole, and Nisku formations.

After tests of the deeper targets, Provident will drill a 2,000-3,000-ft lateral in Lower Cut Bank sand at 3,300 ft true vertical depth. The company operates the unit, which an Arkanova subsidiary acquired in 2008.
