Morvin field starts up in Norwegian Sea

Statoil has started production from Morvin oil field, a subsea project linked by pipeline to the Asgard B platform 20 km to the east in the Norwegian Sea.

HOUSTON, Aug. 3 -- Statoil has started production from Morvin oil field, a subsea project linked by pipeline to the Asgard B platform 20 km to the east in the Norwegian Sea.

Initial flow is 24,000 boe/d. Start-up of a second well will raise output to 51,000 boe/d.

The field eventually will have four wells producing through two subsea templates from Middle Jurassic Garn and Ile sandstones at depths of 4,500-4,700 m. Discovered in 2001, Morvin lies in 350 m of water on Block 6506/11.

Statoil, operator with a 64% interest, estimates reserves at 70 million boe and expects the production life to be 15 years. Partners are Eni SPA 30% and Total SA 6%.
