HOUSTON, Mar. 12
– The CJSC Somon Oil unit of Manas Petroleum Corp., Baar, Switzerland, began a 250 line-km, $3 million 2D seismic shoot along the Tuzluk structural trend in Tajikistan.

Goal is to further define and analyze a possible extension of prospects delineated in the Kyrgyzstan Tuzluk license and mature a number of Tajik prospects to drill-ready status (see map, OGJ, Nov. 19, 2007, p. 34).

Somon has identified seven large underthrust prospects close to existing oil fields and which were originally identified by Soviet seismic and by 123 line-km of seismic shot by Somon in December 2007 and June 2008. Manas believes that the potential size of the Tajik resources is similar to that of the Manas Kyrgyz license area.

The Kazakhstan-based geophysical firm DANK Scientific Industrial is using a 2D-3D compatible vibrator crew for the new work. Santos International Ventures Pty. Ltd. is funding the seismic program under a farmout option.
