HOUSTON, Sept. 23
– BPZ Resources Inc., Houston, activated a second rig in Block Z-1 off northwestern Peru to drill the A-14XD well to appraise Tenneco Oil Co.’s 1972 8X-2 oil and gas-condensate discovery.

A-14XD is projected to 15,000 ft on the refurbished A platform, which has three shut-in wells drilled by Belco Oil & Gas Corp. in 1977 that produced briefly. The other rig is working in Corvina field.

A-14XD is to test the Lower Zorritos formation in Albacora field for the first time, fulfilling a license commitment. The 8X-2 well penetrated Lower Zorritos and tested only Upper Zorritos, while six later Tenneco and Belco wells didn’t penetrate Lower Zorritos, BPZ said.
