HOUSTON, May 17
– Colombia’s state Ecopetrol reported a heavy oil discovery on the Cano Sur block in the Llanos basin where two earlier stratigraphic wells found evidence of hydrocarbons.

The vertical Mito-1 well, near Quifa oil field in the Puerto Gaitan municipality in Meta Province, yielded 200 b/d of 13.5° gravity oil with 10% water cut from Eocene Carbonera basal sands on a progressive cavity pump. TD is 3,310 ft. The Mago-1 and Draco-1 found hydrocarbon indications on the block last year.

Ecopetrol, operator and owner of 100% interest in the Cano Sur contract area, will continue tests and will proceed with the campaign of more than 10 exploratory wells and further stratigraphic wells.
