Chevron selects KBR for designing Big Foot topsides
Chevron USA Inc. selected KBR Inc. for the detailed design of the topsiders for an extended tension-leg platform that will be installed on Walker Ridge Block 29 in the Gulf of Mexico for producing Big Foot oil field.

HOUSTON, Jan. 27 -- Chevron USA Inc. selected KBR Inc. for the detailed design of the topsiders for an extended tension-leg platform that will be installed on Walker Ridge Block 29 in the Gulf of Mexico for producing Big Foot oil field.
The proposed facility will be in 5,200 ft of water about 225 miles from New Orleans and 35 miles south of Chevron's producing Tahiti field.
KBR will provide engineering and procurement support during the detailed design phase of the project. KBR previously completed the front-end engineering and design for Big Foot and provided key support in obtaining project sanction.
The production facility is an integrated drilling and production platform with dry trees and a topsides that includes inlet oil and gas separation, gas compression, dehydration and export, oil treatment and export pumping, produced water treatment, water injection and all required utility systems. Designed capacity is 75,000 bo/d and 25 MMcfd of gas. Oil production is scheduled to start in 2014.
Chevron estimates that the 2006 Big Foot discovery contains in excess of 200 million boe of recoverable resources. Primary pay sands are Middle to Upper Miocene at 19,000-24,000 ft and lie below a salt canopy that has a 8,000-15,000 ft thickness.
Three exploration and appraisal wells with multiple sidetracks have delineated the structure.
Chevron has a 60% working interest in the $4 billion Big Foot project.
