Hydro plans Oseberg-Statpipe gas line
Norsk Hydro AS has submitted to Norway's Ministry of Industry and Energy a plan to build and operate a pipeline to take gas from Oseberg field to the Statpipe trunk line terminal in Heimdal field.
Pipelaying for the $150 million, 110 km, 36-in. pipeline is scheduled for the 1999 offshore construction season.
Oseberg gas has mainly been reinjected, but as the field enters its decline, gas production will be needed to help maintain oil output levels.
Oseberg's gas reserves are 4 tcf, and Hydro secured a contract to supply 70 bcf/year of gas to Verbundnetz Gas AG, Leipzig, beginning in 2000.
Hydro is evaluating two options for the Statpipe connection, a direct link to Statpipe south of Heimdal platform or connection to the Statpipe riser on Heimdal, and will make a recommendation to the ministry by June.
