Viet Nam has awarded a contract for construction of its first natural gas processing plant.

Vietnam Oil & Gas Corp. let an ¥8 billion ($70 million) contract to NKK Corp., Tokyo, to build a natural gas separation plant at Vung Tau, 80 km southeast of Ho Chi Minh City.

NKK will build a plant with capacity to process 150 MMcfd of gas produced from Bach Ho field by operator Vietsovpetro, the Vietnamese/Russian joint venture.

The plant will separate condensate, propane, and butane from the field's gas stream. Condensate will join the field's oil export line, gas will be sent to a nearby power plant, and liquefied petroleum gas will be sold locally.

The contractor said the plant will be built under a turnkey contract and expects to complete the job in 18 months.
