Phillips Pipe Line Co. plans to construct a petroleum products pipeline and terminal to serve growing markets in the U.S. Southwest.
The project, part of a larger strategy by the Phillips Petroleum Co. unit to expand Phillips' transportation network to meet rising regional demand, involves combining new construction with modifications to an existing 8-in. natural gas liquids pipeline.
The new line will carry product from Phillips' Borger, Tex., refinery to El Paso and Arizona.
Work involves reversing and converting the existing 230-mile NGL pipeline from Borger to Gaines, Tex.; building a 220-mile, 10-in. pipeline from Gaines to El Paso; and building a new terminal at El Paso.
Construction is expected to begin in fourth quarter 1997 and wrap up late in 1998.
The project is subject to board approval, and cost is not disclosed.
