New turbo units going to U.K.

June 23, 1997
Transco BG Plc., Leicestershire, U.K., will install the first units of Dresser-Rand Turbo Products Division's Vectra 40 line of power turbines in the U.K. Shipping of five power units and corresponding 70 PDI ("pipeline compressor direct inlet") pipeline compressor units to Dresser-Rand's manufacturing plant in Kongsberg, Norway, will begin later this month. The units are being manufactured at Dresser-Rand's Olean, N.Y., plant and will be packaged with the GE LM2500+ gas generators

The GE LM2500+ (left) and Dresser-Rand Vectra 40 power turbine (right) are shown installed. The upright (right of center) supports the multiple fuel manifolds and staging valves needed for the dry, low-emissions system. Dresser-Rand says the package design allows for easy access to the engine for maintenance and inspections.

LM2500+ match

The units are being manufactured at Dresser-Rand's Olean, N.Y., plant and will be packaged with the GE LM2500+ gas generators at the Norway plant.

Installation in the U.K. is planned for three pipeline stations in Aberdeen, Bishop Aukland, and Camforth; start-up will be in October 1998.

Total Dresser-Rand equipment contract is more than $40 million.

Designed specifically to match the GE LM2500+ gas generator, the Vectra 40 power turbine operates at higher speeds with greater efficiency than the DR-61, says Dresser-Rand.

It has a maximum continuous operating speed of 6,500 rpm, about 700 rpm greater than the current DR-61 when operating at comparable conditions. The Vectra 40 has an ISO rating of 40,200 hp (30 mw) with a GE LM2500+ gas generator.
