Success at recent wells has caused Union Pacific Resources Group to target an increase in its Louisiana Austin chalk rig count to 12 from six, allowing for the drilling of 41 wells this year. UPR will participate in 20 nonoperated wells.
The Crosby 8-1 in Vernon Parish, a 10 mile extension of Masters Creek field, flowed 22 MMcfd of gas with 4,200 b/d of oil at 7,500 psi flowing pressure from the chalk.
The Crosby 24-1, in Masters Creek field, has produced more than 1 bcf of gas and 285,000 bbl of oil from the chalk since completion in November 1996. Its late February rate was 13 MMcfd and 3,600 b/d.
UPR proposed a 100 MMcfd expansion of the Masters Creek processing plant, which is to be operating at 100 MMcfd upon startup in June 1997.
