CHALKLEY DEEP RESERVES PUT AT 570-762 BCF
Another reserves assessment shines a bright light on Chalkley Deep gas-condensate field in Cameron Parish, southwestern Louisiana.
Transco Exploration Partners Ltd. (TXP), Houston, on whose West Chalkley prospect the discovery well was drilled, estimated reserves in Oligocene Miogypsinoides at 762 bcf proved, 136 bcf probable, and 24 bcf possible of gas equivalent.
This internal estimate includes 10.5 million bbl of condensate, of which TXP's share is estimated to be 1.4 million bbl.
TXP's consulting engineers estimated Miogyp reserves at 570 bcf proved, 200 bcf probable, and 37 bcf possible of natural gas equivalent, including 8.6 million bbl of condensate with the company's share 1.1 million bbl.
The estimates are based on certain assumptions used in calculating TXP's net interest in the wells drilled, which will likely be affected by the timing and ultimate outcome of anticipated unitization proceedings, the company said.
The estimates do not include reserves associated with the 1 TXP well being drilled to further delineate previously discovered gas sands and evaluate deeper zones on the prospect (see map, OGJ, Feb. 18, p. 28).
TXP said the differences in the estimates are not surprising considering the field's early stage of development.
TXP expects to sell its interest in the field this year and complete liquidation thereafter.
Exxon Co., U.S.A., which owns a large interest in the field and has operated most of the wells, estimated reserves to be at least 300-500 bcf of gas as of late 1990 (OGJ, Mar. 11, Newsletter).
