SOVIET-U.S. JOINT VENTURE HIRES A PAIR OF PARKER RIGS
The Soviet-U.S. venture White Nights Joint Enterprise has signed a multiyear contract that will put the first drilling rigs owned by a U.S. contractor to work in the U.S.S.R.
The contract awarded to Parker Drilling Co. International Ltd. calls for two state of the art rigs and supervisory personnel to operate in western Siberia.
White Nights is a partnership of Varyeganneftegaz, a Soviet oil and gas concern; Anglo-Suisse (U.S.S.R.) LP, a privately owned U.S. independent oil company; and Phibro Energy Inc., a division of Salomon Inc. Parker International is a subsidiary of Parker Drilling Co., Tulsa.
Contract terms were not revealed.
The two Parker rigs will begin a 3 year drilling program by midsummer in West Varyegan and Tagrinsk oil fields as part of an improved recovery and development drilling program.
The rigs, equipped with the latest generation of technology, are being redeployed from other Parker operations.
A deep capacity workover/drilling unit will be mobilized from Parker's Singapore operations center. The second rig, a deep capacity electric drilling unit, will transfer from operations in the Anadarko basin of western Oklahoma.
Parker also will provide specialized safety and well control training to Soviet drilling crews.
