LASMO GAUGES OIL STRIKE OFF NOVA SCOTIA
Lasmo Nova Scotia Ltd. has tested an oil discovery 1.8 miles northeast of its Cohasset-Panuke development area off Nova Scotia.
The Balmoral M-32 wildcat, drilled to 8,282 ft, tested three pay zones in sands equivalent to some reservoir intervals in Cohasset field, about 25 miles southwest of Sable Island on the Scotian Shelf. The well flowed at a combined rate of 9,495 b/d of oil from three zones.
There was a small volume of gas and no water.
The well flowed 5,675 b/d of 51.6 gravity oil through a 13.5 mm choke with 611 psi flowing tubing pressure from the lower zone at 6,773-83 ft, 150 b/d of 50.6 gravity oil through an 8 mm choke with 26 psi flowing tubing pressure from a middle zone at 6,451-58 ft, and 3,670 b/d of 50.6 gravity oil through a 12.7 mm choke with 417 psi flowing tubing pressure from the upper zone at 6,409-22 ft.
Lasmo, which operates a 50-50 joint venture with Nova Scotia Resources (Ventures) Ltd., said testing is complete and studies will be carried out to see if the well can be produced through facilities planned for Panuke-Cohasset.
Lasmo plans to install a jack up production unit in the fields to produce as much as 30,000 b/d. The unit will produce for 8-9 months/year, shutting down in the winter. Production is to start next year.
The Balmoral strike was drilled by the Rowan Gorilla III jack up, which is moving to Panuke field to drill the first well for the development project.
