FIREFIGHTERS REPORT PROGRESS IN KUWAIT
Firefighters are making progress in their campaign to bring Kuwait's blazing oil wells under control.
Safety Boss Ltd., Calgary, brought its 100th well under control in Kuwait Aug. 23.
To date the combined firefighting forces of all organizations working in Kuwait have brought more than 320 wells under control, Safety Boss reported.
The company's tally shows U.S. teams provided by Wild Well Control have killed 87 wells, Boots & Coots 59, Red Adair Co. 56, and Cudd Pressure Control Inc. two.
Abel Engineering/Well Control Inc. firefighters are operational but have killed no wells to date.
In addition , crews from China Petroleum Engineering Construction Co. and a crew from Iran recently began work in Kuwait, joining other international firefighting teams who are responsible for bringing about 20 wells under control.
Safety Boss currently has three crews totaling 26 persons at work in Kuwait on 28 day assignment. An additional 26 crew members are on rotation outside Kuwait.
Safety Boss began work with two full crews in early April and the crew strength was increased to three full crews on August 4.
The first Safety Boss crews left Canada for Kuwait by U.S. Air Force C-5 Galaxy last Apr. 6.
Safety Boss capped its first Kuwaiti well Apr. 18 near Ahmadi in Greater Burgan oil field.
