Symskaya Exploration Inc. is considering drilling a second well in eastern Siberia's Krasnoyarsk region, where its Lemok 1 well was unsuccessful.

TD is 14,102 ft. The well had mechanical problems and did not reach its primary target in Vendian at 14,500 ft.

Cased hole drillstem tests of four zones in probable Cambrian aged fractured dolomites at 6,890-8,283 ft flowed salt water with no oil or gas.

A second well, if drilled, would be about 5 miles east of Lemok 1 and target Vendian at 11,000 ft, 3,000 ft structurally higher on the Ishtyskaya anticline.

Symskaya is held 50-50 by Equity Oil Co., Salt Lake City, and Leucadia National Corp.

New York

Industry is starting a program to field test about 100 marginal producing and shut-in gas wells in western New York and determine the potential for rehabilitation and application of new technologies.

Producers are being asked to submit wells and pay a few hundred dollars for the evaluation, said project coordinator Greg Carder of Universal Well Service, Mead- ville, Pa.

The $116,000 project has $48,500 in funds from the New York State Energy Research & Development Authority. Universal and Independent Oil & Gas Association of New York will pay most of the rest.

Gulf Coast

Unocal Corp. is building gas production from the Eocene Yegua trend.

Mariner Energy Inc., formerly Hardy Oil & Gas USA Inc., and Unocal completed the 1 Broussard Heirs, a deeper pool test in Pine Island Bayou field, Jefferson County.

Yegua flowed 4 MMcfd of gas with 800 b/d of condensate on a 15/64 in. choke with 4,537 psi FTP. It is to be placed on production next month.

Mariner and Unocal have drilled five successful Yegua trend wells. Pine Island Bayou field is producing 23 MMcfd of gas, 3,900 b/d of condensate, and 500 b/d of NGL. Facilities are being expanded to handle 35 MMcfd of gas and 6,500 b/d of liquids by yearend.

Unocal's 1 Stovall, in Bravenec field, Wharton County, went on production in May after testing 4 MMcfd of gas on a 12/64 in. choke with 5,300 psi FTP from Yegua. The field was producing 4.2 MMcfd in late July.

Unocal's 2 Quinn, in Bobcat Run field, Orange County, flowed 2.7 MMcfd of gas on a 14/64 in. choke with 2,600 psi FTP. It was brought on production in mid-July at 4 MMcfd. Greenhill Petroleum Corp. and Atlantia Oil & Gas Corp. hold interests. Bobcat Run field is producing 14.1 MMcfd.

East

Pennzoil Exploration & Production Co. plans to spend $26 million in Carthage gas field during 1996-97.

Pennzoil has completed about two wells per month in the field since September 1992. The Texas Railroad Commission approved optional 80 acre spacing in Jurassic Cotton Valley in June 1992.

Pennzoil's 16 units in northern Carthage field were fully developed on 80 acres as of June 1996. Based on results from five wells, the company is evaluating the economics of developing its 19 southern units on 80s.

It has approved 15 development wells for drilling this year, and the project could evolve into a two rig, 2-3 year program.

Pennzoil's net production from Carthage and surrounding Panola County is about 85 MMcfd of gas equivalent. The gas sold for $1-2/Mcf the past year.

Panhandle

Toreador Royalty Corp., Dallas, signed two Dalhart basin exploratory agreements with an undisclosed operator.

The operator took an option-farmout on 8,935 acres divided into four blocks on the Proctor Ranch in Oldham and Hartley counties.

The operator may at its option elect to drill a well on each block to earn a 75% working interest in that block. The operator tentatively plans to drill a well on the first prospect next month.

A separate agreement gives the same operator 18 months to conduct 3D geophysical surveys on a contiguous 41,900 acre block. Toreador must meet title requirements before this agreement is closed.
