Software helps improve e&p decision-making

The new Petrel 2012 E&P software platform is designed to strengthen integration between geophysics, geology, and reservoir engineering, including systematic exploration risk assessment, prestack seismic work flows, and efficient reservoir simulation results analysis.

It extends functionality into drilling and production—helping to optimize well placement in shale and heavy oil reservoirs and to provide enhanced production scenario planning. Also it offers enhanced enterprise knowledge management and multiuser collaboration.

Geometric measurement system

The new ALiSENSOR level promises accurate geometric measurements.

The technology, which is known as industrial MFi (made for iPad), is an integration of the iPad and other iOS devices into tools and equipment. Not only does the platform offer users the ability to work with iPads, iPhones, and iPods, but it also opens up a new sphere of uses that can now be performed with the full range of Apple Inc.'s iOS devices.

The system consists of a sensor unit and an iOS unit (iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch). The sensor unit is a data collector that contains gyros, inclinometers, accelerometers, and a microprocessor. Data of angular and translational movements are provided via Bluetooth to the iOS unit, which provides a user friendly environment for the operator to analyze the data. Typical measurement applications are straightness, level, inclination, and base flatness.

The tool is supported with a dedicated App, downloadable for free from the App Store, which guides the user throughout the measurement.

On line calibration for trace sulfur species

Here's the new Span Pac 261 I dual channel, permeation system that offers effective calibration for total sulfur, which often requires a mix of compounds where the concentration of each compound is known.

For example, a 1 ppmw specification for total sulfur in propylene may also require a maximum of 50 ppbw of COS combined with a range of other compounds including H2S, mercaptans, and some heavier sulfides.

This unit produces suitable standards for these requirements. One channel is operated at 40° C. and is used for ppb COS plus 0.5 ppm each of H2S, methyl and ethyl mercaptans. The second channel is typically operated at 60° C. and is used for similar concentrations of dimethyl sulfide, dimethyl disulfide and-or thiophene.

The Span Pac I is housed in a NEMA 4 cabinet and is available with Div. 2 or Div. 1 purge package for hazardous area service. Oven temperatures and permeation tubes are selected to suit the application.

New tester for used catalysts

This new activity value test system (AVTS) proprietary nondestructive catalytic activity tester is designed for used catalysts.

The process provides an economical way to evaluate catalyst activity levels in used catalysts common in the large stationary engines found throughout the energy industry. The system lets specialists know whether washed catalysts are worth reinstalling or needed to be replaced. The AVTS technology delivers the necessary data for catalyst users to make informed decisions, the firm notes.

The AVTS test unit is engineered to provide a repeatable set of temperature and flow conditions similar to those a catalyst sees in the field. It gauges the activity level by introducing to the catalyst a standard reference compound found in a gas engine's exhaust.

New Software manages engineering data

PIM360, a project information management solution, manages the acquisition, conditioning, cleansing, and delivery of engineering information, to help ensure that information conforms to both the business validation rules and the class library that defines the data. PIM360 is designed to be complementary and work together with all other information management technologies.

It features automatic acquisition of clean data into the engineering information database.
