A group led by Ranger Oil Ltd., Calgary, has obtained two new exploration licenses off Côte d'Ivoire.
Operator Ranger; Clyde Expro plc, a unit of Gulf Canada Resources Ltd., Calgary; Gentry Resources Ltd., Calgary; and TC Petroleum Inc., Calgary, are the partners in both licenses.
The group signed production-sharing contracts for Blocks CI-101 covering 790,000 acres and CI-103 covering 620,000 acres located south-southeast of Block CI-102 in more than 200 m of water.
No exploration plans were disclosed.
Block CI-101 and CI-103 are also south of Espoir and Belier oil fields. Espoir field redevelopment is currently being reviewed by Ranger Oil as operator, with Switzerland-based Addax Petroleum and Ireland-based Tullow Oil. Espoir produced as much as 40,000 b/d during 1980-88 and was shut in because of high operating costs and a stringent fiscal regime.
Belier field is currently being delineated by Santa Fe Energy.
Working interests are Ranger Oil Côte d'Ivoire and Clyde Expro plc 35% each, Gentry International Inc. 7%, T.C. Petroleum Inc. 3%, and state-owned Soc. Nationale d'Operations Petrolieres de la Côte d'Ivoire 10%.
