TPAO, Amoco join to explore block in W. Kazakhstan
Amoco Corp. unit Amoco Kazakhstan (Central Territory) BV and Turkish Petroleum Overseas Co., a wholly owned subsidiary of Turkey's state-owned petroleum company Turkiye Petrolleri AO (TPAO), have established a joint venture to explore for petroleum in Kazakhstan.
The new firm, Tepco LLC, will immediately begin exploring Central Territory Block B (see map, this page) under a production-sharing contract with the Kazakh government. Kazakh- stan reissued the exploration license for this block, which was previously held exclusively by TPAO.
Tepco let contract to GGA Azimut, Karaganda, Kazakhstan, to conduct a seismic survey on the block.
The survey began late in June and will be completed this fall.
TPAO's Orhan Duran will be president of Tepco, and Amoco's Ken Service will be exploration manager.
Tepco will open an office in Aktyubinsk, Kazakhstan.
