Faroe Islands
Saga Petroleum AS, Total, and Anadarko Petroleum Corp. agreed to combine operations in British and Faroese regions of the Atlantic Margin with Saga as operator on behalf of all three companies in Faroese waters.Anadarko said its first Atlantic Margin well, on a block operated by Mobil, was scheduled to begin drilling in late 1998 (OGJ, Mar. 16, 1998, p. 42).
Iraq
A Philippine foreign undersecretary who headed a delegation to Baghdad in early December said Philippine National Oil Co. is negotiating for exploration rights in Iraq.PNOC is to take a 51% interest in a proposed project to explore for oil on Block 9 in Iraq's western desert, said Leonides Caday.
Caday did not name other partners, if any. The joint venture would require United Nations approval.
Nepal
The government signed agreements on two blocks with a U.S. company.Texana Resources Co. of Texas is to explore 4,908 sq km Nepalganj Block 3 and 4,945 sq km Chitwan Block 5, both west of Kathmandu (OGJ, Aug. 17, 1998, p. 116).
Michigan
Continental Resources Inc., Enid, Okla., has staked two horizontal wells to Silurian Niagaran in southeastern Michigan.The surface locations are in 20 and 31-8n-13e, in Capac gas storage field, St. Clair County, Petroleum Information/Dwights LLC reported.
New York
Columbia Natural Resources Inc., Charleston, W.Va., staked a wildcat in Tompkins County.The 623513 Koskinen, about 3 miles south-southwest of Trumansburg, is projected to 7,150 ft. The site is about 8 miles west-southwest of Lansing field, PI reported.
CNR is exploring to the west in Steuben County.
Ohio
Burlington Resources Oil & Gas Co., Houston, staked three Beekmantown tests in an unnamed field in Jackson County.The wells are in Secs. 12, 19, and 29 of Scioto Township, Stockdale quad, where Berea, Ohio shale, Rose Run, and Beekmantown produce in an unnamed field, PI reported. Proposed TDs are 3,900 ft.
Oklahoma
CNG Producing Co. sought state approval to drill an exploratory test in the Ouachita thrust belt.Drilling would be in 11-1n-14e, Atoka County, about 1 mile north of an unnamed 1997 discovery. That well, Hunt Oil Co. 1-10 McEntire, flowed 460 Mcfd of gas with 5 b/d of condensate on a 20/64 in. choke from Jackfork perforations at 6,198-6,205 ft, PI reported. TD is 17,540 ft.
Another 3-4 miles south is the former U.S. Mineral & Royalty Corp. 1 Wyrick, in 26-1n-14e, which has produced 1.23 bcf of gas the past 10 years from Arkansas Novaculite at 8,534-66 ft. It was making 200 Mcfd in June 1998, when the operator was Energas Corp.
Texas
Vertical TD is 14,370 ft at the 1X Stokes, 8 miles south-southeast of San Augustine. Marathon plans to re-enter and drill southerly in Knowles lime, equivalent of Troy lime in North Louisiana, at 17,000 ft measured depth, PI reported.
Virginia
Columbia Natural Resources staked a deeper pool wildcat in Buchanan County. The 23327 CNR-Big Sandy Coal Corp., 3 miles north of Poetown, is projected to 9,795 ft or Lower Ordovician Beekmantown. The location is in an unnamed field producing from Mississippian Berea and Devonian Lower Huron, PI reported.Wyoming
Working interest became available in mid-December in expanding Jonah field in the Green River/Hoback basin.Western Gas Resources Inc.'s Lance Oil & Gas, Inc. unit offered for sale its 11.25% working interest in 3 sq miles.
Jonah field is a large basin-centered gas accumulation in Sublette County. It is producing nearly 200 MMcfd of gas from 85 wells and is being developed on 80 acre spacing. Producers are evaluating infill drilling on 40 acre spacing.
Lance holds working interests in 19 producing wells on 2,000 gross acres. The wells produce a net 4 MMcfd.
Western Gas plans to retain its gathering and processing rights in the area following sale of the working interest.
