Ranger Oil (U.K.) Ltd., Guildford, Surrey, U.K., has taken preliminary steps toward exploring a massive area off South Africa. Ranger signed a 1-year technical cooperation agreement with South Africa's Soeker Pty. Ltd.'s petroleum licensing unit for two blocks encompassing a 24,000 sq km area off South Africa. Blocks 11B and 12B are between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth in water depths ranging from 200 m to 2,000 m, along an area that includes the southern Outeniqua basin. Following a

Blocks 11B and 12B are between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth in water depths ranging from 200 m to 2,000 m, along an area that includes the southern Outeniqua basin.
Following a 12-month initial evaluation period, Ranger Oil has an option to apply for a sub-lease for the blocks.
