BHP Petroleum Pty. Ltd. has completed the first appraisal well in Dai Hung field off Viet Nam.

Meanwhile, Viet Nam and China signed an agreement late last month over disputed territory, reported Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Tokyo. The two countries were reported to have agreed to principles for settling ownership of border land and South China Sea territory, disputed since 1974.

DAI HUNG WELL

The 4 Dai Hung well was drilled to 3,127 m true vertical depth using the Energy Searcher drillship. The well cut a number of pay zones below 2,500 m. BHP said five production tests were run, yielding a combined rate of 6,640 b/d of oil, Separate tests showed gas/oil ratios at 400-3,000 cu ft/bbl and oil gravities of 28-38.

Energy Searcher will now be demobilized. By the end of October, the Aleutian Key and Treasure Seeker semisubmersible drilling rigs were expected to arrive in the field. These will drill two more appraisal wells.

Wood Mackenzie Consultants Ltd., Edinburgh, has estimated Dai Hung field reserves at about 400 million bbl of oil and 1 tcf of gas. Dai Hung is targeted to be on stream in 1994.
