FOUR TRACTS ACQUIRED OFF W. AUSTRALIA
Western Australia has awarded four 6 year offshore exploration permits in the Carnarvon basin.
All are in the Rowley Shoals area off Dampier.
Phillips Australian Oil Co. and Ampolex Ltd. won Block W92-6 in water depths of about 650 ft. The companies propose to acquire 3,550 line km of seismic data and drill two wells at an estimated cost of $16.6 million.
Mobil Exploration & Producing Australia Pty. Ltd. was awarded Block W92-7 on which water depths range from 600 to 3,300 ft. Mobil plans an $18.1 million program to acquire 2,000 fine km of seismic data and 2,000 line km of gravimetric surveys along with an airborne magnetics survey, besides drilling two wells.
Discovery Petroleum NL, Perth, won Blocks W92-9 and W92-10, both of which feature water depths less than 650 ft.
Discovery aims to spend $6.8 million on W93-9 to acquire 400 line km of seismic data and drill one well. The budget for W92-10 is $7 million to cover 500 line km of seismic surveys and drilling of one well.
