DESIGN METHOD ADDRESSES SUBSEA PIPELINE THERMAL STRESSES

J. C. Suman, Sandor A. Karpathy John Brown E&C Houston Managing thermal stresses in subsea pipelines carrying heated petroleum requires extensive thermal-stress analysis to predict trouble spots and to ensure a design flexible enough to anticipate stresses and expansions. Explored here are various methods for resolving predicaments posed by thermal loads and resulting deformations by keeping the stresses and deformations in the pipeline system within allowable limits.
