NEW TECHNOLOGY REDUCES SOX EMISSIONS

General Electric Co. has successfully completed more than 400 hr of pilot plant testing on a new hot gas cleanup (HGCU) system that removes H2S from 1,000 F. coal gas with an efficiency greater than 99%. The HGCU technology significantly reduces emissions Of SO2-a pollutant linked to acid rain-by removing virtually all of the H2S present in the gas before it is sent to the gas turbine for power generation. (H2S is converted to SO2 in the turbine.)
