GERMANY APPROVES EUROPIPE LANDFALL

Nov. 30, 1992
Norway's Den norske stats oljeselskap AS has won approval to bring the Europipe gas pipeline ashore through the Wattenmeer National Park, Lower Saxony, Germany. The plan allows the pipeline to land along a natural tide channel between coastal islands. This was a compromise reached after environmentalists in the Lower Saxony government rejected an earlier scheme to tunnel under mudflats.

The 40 in. Europipe gas pipeline will collect gas from the Norwegian Block 16/11-S riser platform on Sleipner field for delivery to Emden, Germany. A later link will enable Troll gas to enter the system at the Sleipner riser platform.

Statoil said it can still meet the October 1995 deadline for bringing Europipe on stream, in line with the Troll gas sales agreement, but there is no leeway in the timetable.
