BP DRILLS FASTEST WELL IN NORTH SEA

BP Exploration Operating Co. Ltd. has drilled the fastest well in the North Sea. Ocean Alliance, a semisubmersible drilling rig operated by Diamond M-Odeco Drilling Inc. from Aberdeen, drilled BP's 16/18-4 exploration well to 2,000 m in 5 1/2 days. That beat the previous North Sea record of 1,350 m in 6 1/4 days set in 1969. The rig has moved on to drill an appraisal well west of the Shetland Islands, where hard rock will not be conducive to speed. Copyright 1992 Oil & Gas Journal. All
