The accompanying table shows how Nelson-Farrar indexes have changed over the period, 1987-1990, for selected basically nonmetallic building materials.
Data are included for the overall nonmetallic group, five nonmetallic materials, and iron castings.
Fireclay brick and iron castings indexes showed the greatest changes during the period.
Fireclay brick changed from 930.4 in the first quarter of 1987 to 1039.5 in the fourth quarter of 1990. During the same period iron castings changed from 870.1 to 976.5.
Building brick and clay products showed more moderate changes. The building brick index rose from 783.7 to 845.2 over the 4-year period. Clay products changed from 646.3 to 702.9 over the same time span.
Smallest index changes occurred in the overall nonmetallic, concrete ingredients, and concrete products categories.
These three items changed 33.0, 30.5, and 27.7 index units respectively over the 1987-1990 period.
As shown in the Apr. 1, 1991, issue of Oil & Gas Journal, changes were much greater for the finished steel category than for this current basically nonmetallic group of materials.
