Japan's JHN Oil Operating Co. is installing a modified jacket from a recycled platform for an oil field development project off China.
PMB/Bechtel is assisting with installation in Block 13-1 of the Pearl River Mouth basin in the South China Sea. Platform Julius will anchor JHN's Lu Feng development project in 480 ft of water.
Installation of Julius topside modules is to begin by mid-August. A pipeline is to be laid and a tanker permanently moored near the platform during spring 1993.
Julius was built by Hyundai in the mid-1980s for development of San Miguel field development, where the last operator of record was Shell Western E&P Inc. A maze of regulations ensnared the project, and the platform has never been used. The jacket and topsides were stored at an Asian shipyard until JHN bought the structure.
PMB's work under its contract with JHN includes engineering assessment of all in-place and preservice conditions. PMB also is assisting with fabrication of the module support frame and production modules.
JHN is a combine of Japan Exploration Co., Arabian Oil Co., and Nippon Mining Co. PMB is a subsidiary of Bechtel Corp., Houston.
