Amoco Sharjah Oil Co. has gauged a gas/condensate discovery in North Central Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, where it has acquired more acreage.

Amoco's 2 Kahaif wildcat flowed at rates as high as 73 MMcfd of gas and 1,615 b/d of condensate through a 56/64 in. choke with 5,200 psi flowing tubing pressure during tests of a 700 ft pay section in Cretaceous Thamama. Total depth is 13,897 ft. Amoco holds a 40% working interest in the well and Sharjah the remainder. The well is about 10 miles south of Amoco's Sajaa and Moveyeid fields, discovered in 1980 and 1982 respectively, that produce a combined 580 MMcfd of gas and 38,000 b/d of condensate. Production from both fields goes to Amoco's Sajaa gas processing plant that produces 13,000 b/d of liquefied petroleum gas.

David F. Work, Amoco group vice-president of worldwide exploration, said the 2 Kahaif is the first well drilled in an exploration program based on reinterpretation of 3-D seismic data obtained by the company in 1984.

Last September the company acquired more Sharjah acreage west and south of its previous concession, increasing its acreage position by 50% to 224,000 acres.

A seismic survey of the new acreage is to be conducted in 1993.
