Amoco (U.K.) Exploration Co.'s Central Area Transmission System (CATS) gas pipeline is taking shape in the U.K. North Sea.
Contractor Saipem SpA installed the system's riser in North Everest gas field.
The 2,700 metric ton steel jacket, fabricated by Highlands Fabricators at Nigg Bay in Northeast Scotland, was towed into positioned and installed in 295 ft of water.
The CATS riser platform will act as the gathering point for gas from North Everest and Lomond gas fields. Risers will be set inside the platform jacket as an additional safety feature.
Gas from the riser platform will move through the new 255 mile, 36 in. CATS line to Teesside in Northeast England.
About 43% of the line was laid last year. Pipelaying on the project resumed last month.
The system, due on stream in April 1993, will have a capacity of 1.4 bcfd.
Amoco's partners in CATS are British Gas Exploration & Production Ltd., BG North Sea Holdings Ltd., Amerada Hess Ltd., Phillips Petroleum Co. U.K. Ltd., Fina Exploration Ltd., and Agip (U.K.) Ltd.
