Hunt Oil Co., Dallas, has staked wildcats far from production in northeastern Nevada and southwestern Utah.
The company confirmed it plans to drill the two wells but declined to provide more information about its exploratory program.
Hunt staked the 1 Cherry Creek Unit, in 18-25n-64e, White Pine County, in the Steptoe Valley about 110 miles northeast of oil fields in Railroad Valley of Nye County. Projected total depth is 17,500 ft.
Hunt's Nevada location is also about 80 miles eastsoutheast of oil production in Blackburn field of Pine Valley.
Petroleum Information notes that if drilled to target depth the wildcat would be the second deepest in Nevada, where two deepest holes went to 19,562 ft and 17,110 ft.
In Utah about 132 miles southeast of the Nevada location, Hunt staked the 1-25 Wah Wah, in 25-27s-16w, Beaver County, about 31 miles west-northwest of Milford. Neither depth nor geologic objective were disclosed.
The Utah location is 110 miles east-southeast of Nevada's Railroad Valley, 90 miles north-northwest of Virgin oil field, and more than 100 miles norththwest of Upper Valley oil field.
