U.S. JOINT VENTURE SHIPS FIRST CARGO TO FORMER U.S.S.R.
MegaOil U.S.A./Vista Joint Venture Inc., Oklahoma City, has shipped its first load of oil field equipment to the Commonwealth of Independent States.
A cargo of about 275,000 lb of workover rigs, logging trucks, rig tools, and parts was loaded onto a Russian built Antanov AN-124 cargo plane May 9 in Oklahoma City.
Azerbaijan Oil Co. was to receive the shipment in Baku, Azerbaijan, May 12.
Work will begin immediately in two oil fields there while scheduling for a second air shipment is arranged. Further shipments by cargo vessel are being negotiated.
MegaOil has an agreement with Azerbaijan Oil to work over about 1,500 wells and drill 400 more in Azerbaijan (OGJ, Mar. 23, p. 30). Ponder Industries Inc., Alice, Tex., is supplying services for the project (OGJ, Apr. 20, p. 41), and Sphinx Natural Resources Operating Inc. unit Natural Resources Operating Co., Oklahoma City, is providing project coordination.
Three undisclosed private companies are also providing services to MegaOil for the project.
