Northern Border Pipeline Co. has completed an expansion project on its 822 mile, 42 in. gas pipeline, increasing deliveries to Ventura and Harper, Iowa.
New capacity will be about 1.7 bcfd, with Ventura expected to average 1.2 bcfd and Harper about 385 MMcfd.
The project added 313 MMcfd of capacity to the system and involved construction of four 20,000 hp compressor stations, acquiring from Natural Gas Pipeline Co. of America the 147 mile, 30 in. pipeline from Ventura to Harper, and constructing a meter station at the Harper delivery point.
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approved the project early this year (OGJ, Mar. 2, p. 26).
The project cost about $158 million, including the $77.8 million acquisition of Natural Gas Pipeline's Iowa line, which was laid in 1990.
Northern Border's construction costs will be rolled into system costs, resulting in a transportation rate deduction of about 9%.
Customers will pay about 32cts/Mcf for transportation from the Canadian border to Ventura and about 37cts/Mcf from the Canadian border to Harper.
Northern Border's system originates near Monchy, Sask., where it links up with a line moving gas from Alberta.
