CHINA TO INCREASE ONSHORE GAS FLOW
China plans to hike its onshore natural gas production 60% to 2.4 bcfd by 2000.
China National Petroleum Corp. (CNPC) expects to produce an average 1.63 bcfd in 1995, up from 1.53 bcfd in 1994, which was about flat with 1993's level. Of the 1995 total, 671 MMcfd is to come from Sichuan province.
CNPC plans to step up gas exploration and development in western China, particularly the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia basin, where proved reserves are estimated at 3.5 tcf.
China's offshore produces only about 30 MMcfd of associated gas, a figure that will jump when Yacheng 13-1 gas field off Hainan Island goes on stream this year.
Natural gas accounts for about 2-3% of China's energy mix, compared with an Asian average of 8-9%. China did not begin emphasizing gas E&D until 1985.
