Esso Production Malaysia Inc. has let 10 contracts worth nearly $200 million combined for a company record offshore platform and related facilities in Malaysia.
Seven of the contracts cover fabrication of the jacket, production modules and module support frames, living quarters, and remote gas flare for Lawit field Platform A. It will be installed in 1996 about 150 miles off Terengganu, Malaysia, and 25 miles west of Esso's Jerneh field, the country's biggest gas field.
Two other contracts were for pipe coating services, and one was for offshore transportation and installation services.
All 10 contracts went to Malaysian companies.
Development of Lawit field (17804 bytes) is Esso's first big gas project under the natural gas project sales agreement with Malaysia's state owned Petronas since Jerneh production began in 1992.
Esso said Lawit field must be developed to meet growing domestic demand for gas.
Lawit A platform will be the largest fixed platform built by Esso Malaysia, eclipsing the company's Jerneh A production platform, the largest in Southeast Asia.
Lawit's complex is to include the A Platform for production operations, an adjacent riser platform, and a remote gas flare.
Production platform facilities are to include five production modules, living quarters for 122 workers, and a helicopter pad. The riser platform is to consist of a three tiered, integrated deck to house pipeline risers.
Lawit's development plan includes a 30-in. gas pipeline to shore, which is to be tied in to existing onshore receiving facilities.
Fabrication of Lawit facilities is to begin this month, with production to start in 1997.
At full flow, Lawit will boost Esso Malaysia's gas delivery capacity by about 400 MMcfd to a total of 1.3 bcfd. Jerneh gas production at yearend 1994 averaged about 750 MMcfd.
Malaysian companies that won Lawit contracts were Bredero Price (M) Sdn. Bhd., Malmac Sdn. Bhd., Penang Shipbuilding & Construction Sdn. Bhd., Promet Fabricators Sdn. Bhd., Petro Pipe Socotherm Coating Sdn. Bhd., and Sabah Shipyard Sdn. Bhd.
Esso Malaysia, an Exxon Corp. affiliate, holds a 100% interest in Lawit.
